There it is Again

Hi guys, this is a little thing I came up with based on a lot of thoughts and feelings from my college experiences. This poem (more of a free write to be honest) is totally raw, unedited and a first draft. It's a poem called There it is Again and its based on a topic that a lot of college people may be able to understand. So here is There it is Again, enjoy!

There it is Again

Like a clandestine impostor
Or a fiend in disguise
Clear like water or gold like resin.
Attired in a variety of colors and extravagant styles
There it is again.

Despite its external beauty
And wildly praised effects,
It smells strong, antiseptic, vile almost.
But when has that stopped anyone?
There it is again.

Upon first taste, its powerful and burns my tongue.
I feel it linger on my mouth and palate
And wonder why anyone would drink this
In glasses, bottles and plastic red cups.
There it is again.

Its fire in my throat and poison in my veins
It dulls my mental faculties
And thickens my tongue
It heats my body and brings blood to my cheeks
There it is again.

It wedges us apart, forcing its way between
Sinking dagger-tipped fingers into us both
Enticing, intoxicating, disabling, disgusting.
I hate it, I hate it, I hate it
There it is again.

Accompanied with flashing lights
And pounding music
The night passes in shadows and blurs
My knees hit the floor, my palms slam the ground
There it is again.

My insides shudder and lurch
While my hands grow cold and numb
My temples throb and scream
I crumple, holding knees to chest
There it is again.

Everyone loves it and the hype helps it
But in the end, what does it do?
Rob a heart of love, rob a heart of trust
Rob a mind of comfort, rob a mind of joy

There it is again.
