Hi all :) I know I'm getting lazy with updates, but page views are going down and demands of college are going up, I have two tests this week, so I'm going to keep this short. As a writer, don't be fooled into thinking that your writing has to be long for it to be good. Below, I've enclosed a lyric, called Footprints, which is only three lines, but I hope you find it illustrates my point about how sometimes writing short can be better than a long-winded composition. Today is the example and tomorrow is the explanation! Enjoy!

Repetition in Poetry
Hi guys, I know I've been lecturing for awhile on all sorts of things to include in your poetry and stories. But I realized an important component of teaching lies in demonstration. So I'll do my best to give you some examples of the ideas that I've been explaining. This is a short little poem that utilizes repetition, what do you think? Emphatic or monotonic?

There it is Again
Hi guys, this is a little thing I came up with based on a lot of thoughts and feelings from my college experiences. This poem (more of a free write to be honest) is totally raw, unedited and a first draft. It's a poem called There it is Again and its based on a topic that a lot of college people may be able to understand. So here is There it is Again, enjoy!

The Message
Hey guys :) So I decided to change things up a bit and post a poem instead of my little "creating your story muses". So this poem is called The Message and it analyzes the message that society sends to us. Yes this is another body image poem, so like, dislike, whatever you want :)

His Favorite Dessert
Hey guys :) If you read my "About Me" page, you know that my grandfather is an extremely special person in my life. He introduced me to books and literature, which eventually became my whole life. He died in 2008 and 5 years later, I wrote this poem about him. His favorite dessert that his described in this poem is a Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. I love my grandpa very much and miss him everyday. This is dedicated to my late grandfather, Sadao Moriyama :)

Returning Home
Recently, I lost someone very special to me. My grandmother, Mitsue Yokota passed away on July 10 following complications. She lived a full 95 years of life and prior to her passing, returned from a trip to Vegas on Friday, went to the bon dance on Saturday and fell ill on Sunday. I carry her name as my middle name and I couldn't be anymore proud of that. While waiting in the ICU for doctors to let us know if she was strong enough to have the operation done, I wrote this poem. At first I was filled with anger and pain, why would someone take my grandmother from me? But then I remembered that by leaving us, she was no longer in pain, no longer tethered down by worldly needs and no longer just a human. She could watch over us from afar and guide us from there. So this poem reflects on the change of emotions, from anger and grief to acceptance and peace.

An Ode To Love
Hey guys, so recently I've been posting up some pretty heavy material, so I decided that today I would take a break from being on my soapbox about society's many flaws, and post a happier poem for a change. This poem, "An Ode To Love" is pretty self explanatory. It describes the love that a girl feels from her lover. Love was always a big part of my life, and yes, like all my poems, this one was written from experience. I had a bad history with love before (haven't we all?) but my newest (and I hope last) love has shown me that there's a lot in the world to be thankful for, and the sky truly is the limit when it comes to showing how you feel about someone. It's thanks to him that I don't hate how I look, that I've stopped cutting and that I've learned to truly love who I am. To me, what's important to remember about love is that you are no longer solely affected by your decisions. Someone else will be too. :)

X
This next poem, called "X" addresses another societal issue that I feel strongly about. Cutting is something that has a social stigma, which I don't think it deserves. For those who are unaware or confused about cutting, it's not something that just "emo" kids do. Some people cut to punish themselves, some to make emotional or mental pain become physical and others because they feel alone or lost. I feel like cutting has an enormous stigma which it doesn't deserve. I am in no way encouraging cutting, it endangers not only the person afflicted but others around them. Please enjoy this poem, which gives a new perspective on this stigma. As always if you know someone who has this problem, comfort them, help them and let them know they're loved. Please feel free to leave comments :)

Uncensored
This poem, called "Uncensored", carries a message about the stigma of body image in society. Body image is an issue I feel very strongly about and affects many men and women across the United States. People have unrealistic expectations of body image because what we see as idealistic turns out to be the magic of Photoshop, airbrushing and extensive editing. Skewed perceptions of self body image can lead to eating disorders and unhealthy methods of controlling body type. I have personally once had a problem with body image and as a result had an eating and exercise disorder. I would not let myself eat if I had not worked out for at least an hour that day. I was miserable, unhappy and unsatisfied with myself. I have bettered myself now, but I know there are still many people out there with this problem.
Please enjoy this poem and if you know anyone with this problem, let them know this: "It's true, the scale can only give you a numerical reflection of your relationship with gravity. It cannot measure beauty, talent, purpose, life force, possibility, strength, or love." ~ Steve Maraboli
