The Message

Hey guys :) So I decided to change things up a bit and post a poem instead of my little "creating your story muses". So this poem is called The Message and it analyzes the message that society sends to us. Yes this is another body image poem, so like, dislike, whatever you want :)

The Message

She has to be slender,
With small hands and feet,
With full breasts and flawless skin,
With long legs and a flat midsection.
The message is very clear.

The message is very clear
A girl must look a certain way
To be beautiful in society
The expectations can be overwhelming

She has to be maternal and kind
She must be sweet and intelligent
But at the same time
She has to be sexy and coy.
The expectations can be overwhelming

She cannot have freckles or acne
Marring that golden skin
She should never have scars or bruises
Mementos from playing sports.
The message is very clear.

She must not curse and swear
For that is terribly unladylike
She can never trip and stumble
For proper ladies move with grace.
The expectations can be overwhelming.

If she doesn’t wear make-up- she’s plain
If she does wear make-up- she’s insecure
If she’s thin- she’s anorexic
If she’s voluptuous- she’s obese
The message is very clear.

A woman must be the idyllic beauty
Anything other than the cookie-cutter model
Is not beautiful.
The message is very clear:

The expectations can be overwhelming.
